Pneumatic conveying provides a clean and efficient method of transferring powders, granules and bulk materials through a production process using air. System performance depends on a number of factors including the material being conveyed, conveying rate, pipework configuration and the required operating pressure or vacuum.

Eurovacuum Products specialises in vacuum and low-pressure technology rather than the design of the complete pneumatic conveying system. We work with OEMs, system designers and end users to help identify suitable vacuum pumps and side channel blowers based on the process information provided.

Vacuum or Pressure Conveying?

Pneumatic conveying systems can operate using either vacuum or positive pressure. The most appropriate arrangement depends on the material, conveying distance, required throughput and the design of the overall system.

Vacuum conveying

In a vacuum conveying system, air and material are drawn through the conveying line towards a receiving vessel or separator. Vacuum conveying is commonly used for transferring powders, granules and other bulk materials where contained product handling and controlled material transfer are important.

Pressure conveying

In a pressure conveying system, the air source pushes material through the conveying line. Low-pressure side channel blowers can provide a compact, oil-free air source for suitable conveying duties where the required pressure and airflow fall within their operating range.

The most appropriate vacuum technology depends on the airflow and vacuum required at the operating point. Conveying distance, pipe diameter, vertical lift, bends, material characteristics and conveying rate all contribute to the overall system requirement.

What Do We Need to Know About Your Application?

Selecting the air source starts with understanding the conveying duty. If you are looking for a vacuum pump or blower, send us as much of the following information as you have available:

  • Material being conveyed
  • Bulk density (kg/m³)
  • Required conveying rate (kg/h)
  • Conveying pipe diameter
  • Horizontal conveying distance
  • Vertical lift
  • Number and type of bends
  • Known vacuum, pressure or airflow requirement

From this information, we can review the application and assist with identifying a suitable vacuum pump or blower from our range. Where a pneumatic conveying system is being designed from first principles, final system design and performance requirements should be confirmed by the system designer or conveying equipment specialist.

Vacuum Technology for Pneumatic Conveying

Eurovacuum Products offers a range of vacuum and low-pressure technologies suitable for pneumatic conveying applications. The appropriate technology depends on the airflow, vacuum or pressure required at the operating point and the characteristics of the conveying system.

Side Channel Blowers

Oil-free side channel blowers provide high airflow for vacuum and pressure conveying applications operating at low to medium differential pressures. Single-stage and two-stage models are available to cover a wide range of duties.

Claw Vacuum Pumps

Dry-running claw vacuum pumps provide higher vacuum capability for more demanding vacuum conveying duties. Their oil-free pumping chamber and robust design make them suitable for continuous industrial operation.
